Ceiling fix or wall fix for curtain tracks
A ceiling fix, also called a top fix, supports the track from above. On a Smart Pixel Blinds quote, a wall fix or face fix means the brackets attach to the wall above the window and hold the track out into the room.
Compare the fixing positions
On the left, the fixing enters the ceiling above the track. On the right, the bracket fixes to the wall above the window.
Planning your tracks
Can I ceiling-mount curtains if I have a cornice?
Often, yes. A cornice is the moulding where the wall meets the ceiling. The track may sit in front of it if there is suitable support and room for the folds. A wall-mounted track below the cornice is another option. Compare the two heights with a fabric sample held in place.
Can I keep my roller blind and add a sheer in front?
Often. Raise the blind fully and look from the side. The curtain needs to clear the roll, brackets and any handles along its whole path. A suitable wall bracket can hold the track further out. A ceiling fixing may give more flexibility in where the track sits.
Will two tracks fit inside my existing pelmet?
Measure the clear space inside the pelmet, the box that conceals the tracks. Each layer needs room for its folds to travel and gather without rubbing. The pair of headings and the thickness of the blockout matter as much as the width of the tracks.
Does a ceiling-fixed track disappear into the ceiling?
A surface-mounted track sits below the ceiling and can be visible. A recessed track sits in a purpose-made channel. If you want a flush finish, ask about it before the ceiling is lined so the builder and curtain installer can check the profile and support.
